ScanReady troubleshooting

The red line under the preview and the status bar at the bottom of the plugin say what went wrong and how to fix it. Start there.

"Too much content for one QR code"

The content is longer than the largest QR code (version 40) holds at that error correction level, for example 2953 bytes at L. Shorten it, use a short link instead of a long URL, or lower the error correction. A logo cutout forces level H, which holds the least.

The code does not scan

Check the notes under the preview first. Common causes:

  • Low contrast or inverted colors. Keep the modules clearly darker than the background, at least 4:1. Many phone apps cannot read light codes on dark backgrounds.
  • No quiet zone. Keep at least 4 modules of clear space around the code, in the design and in print.
  • The logo is too large. Keep the cutout under 20 percent of the modules, and keep the logo inside the Logo area.
  • Too small. Use Print preflight (Pro) or aim for at least 0.33 mm per module in print and 4 px on screen.
  • Too dense. A version above 15 needs a lot of space. Shorter content gives a smaller version.

"The URL contains spaces"

URLs cannot contain spaces. Remove them or write them as %20.

"The IBAN is not valid"

The IBAN failed its check digit test. Copy it again from the bank details; spaces are fine, letters and digits must be exact.

"The check digit should be ..."

You entered the full EAN-13, UPC-A or ITF-14 number and its last digit does not match. Fix the typo, or enter one digit fewer and ScanReady computes the check digit.

"Code 128 supports printable ASCII here"

Code 128 in ScanReady takes letters, digits, spaces and standard punctuation. Remove tabs, line breaks and characters such as accented letters or emoji. For those, use a QR code.

"This code sits inside an instance"

Figma does not let plugins change the shapes or layers inside an instance. Update the code in the main component, or detach the instance, then press Update selected again.

Update selected does nothing or edits the wrong code

Update redraws the ScanReady code you have selected (or the code that contains the selected layer). Select exactly one code. If the layer was not made by ScanReady, the plugin says so; create a new code instead.

The text under the bars is missing

The text uses Inter Regular. When Inter is not available the plugin still draws the bars and says the text was skipped. Also check that Text under the bars is ticked.

Batch rows were skipped

Each row is encoded before anything is drawn. Rows that fail, for example an invalid IBAN or a URL with spaces, are skipped and the reason for the first one is shown. Check the column mapping too: a field set to "Not used" stays empty. A batch is limited to 1000 codes; split longer lists.

Write into frames wrote nothing

Each selected frame needs a layer named exactly qr (case does not matter) somewhere inside it. With By position the first row goes into the top left frame; with a frame name column, the cell must equal the frame name. A qr layer inside an instance is skipped.

Swap found no codes

Swap only looks at ScanReady codes on the current page, and matches the text exactly as stored. Try a shorter part of the URL, such as the domain.
