SpecMark troubleshooting

The status bar at the bottom of the plugin reports what each action drew and every failure. Start there.

"Select an auto layout frame to show its padding and gap"

Padding and gap only works on frames that use auto layout. Select the frame itself, not a layer inside it. The first line of the plugin says "auto layout" when the selection has it. For frames without auto layout, use Distance between two layers, or Spec this frame (Pro), which measures the spacing between their layers.

"The selected frames have no padding or gap to show"

All four paddings are 0 and there is no space between the items, or the frame has one item. Nothing is drawn because there is nothing to measure.

"Select exactly two layers to measure the distance"

Distance compares exactly two layers. Shift-click to select the second one, and make sure no third layer is selected.

"The two layers overlap, so there is no gap to measure"

The layers partly cover each other, so there is no space between them. Move them apart, or select a layer together with the frame it sits inside to measure the distances to the frame's edges.

The status bar says the distance is 0

The two layers touch exactly along an edge. There is no gap to draw.

"Could not load the Inter font for labels"

Labels use Inter Medium, falling back to Inter Regular. Figma includes Inter, so this usually means fonts are still loading or blocked. Wait a moment and try again; in the desktop app, restart Figma if it keeps happening.

The redlines no longer match the design

Redlines are drawn once and do not follow edits automatically. Click Update all to measure every redline on the page again. Redlines whose layers were deleted are removed.

I cannot select or move a redline

The SpecMark group is locked on purpose. Unlock it in the layers panel if you need to move a label, but note that Update all redraws every redline in its measured position.

Clear selection did not remove a redline

Clear selection removes redlines that measure the selected layers or the layers inside them. Select the measured layer itself, not the redline, or use Clear page. Redlines inside a spec sheet are part of the sheet; delete the sheet frame to remove them.

"Stopped at 400"

One action draws at most 400 redlines to keep Figma responsive. Select fewer frames and run Spec this frame again for the rest.

The audit lists values I expected to pass

A value passes only when it is within 0.01px of the scale, so 15.5 fails a scale that contains 16. Check the Spacing scale setting, and for a custom list check that every value you use is in it. "The scale has values that are not numbers" means the custom list contains text; use numbers separated by commas.

"The selection is very large, so the scan stopped early"

The audit checks up to 5,000 layers per run. Select fewer frames and run it again for the rest.

"That layer was deleted or is on another page"

The audit result points at a layer that no longer exists or is on another page. Run the audit again.

A button opens the Get Pro tab

Specs label, Spec this frame, Spec whole page, Spec sheet, the spacing audit and saved styles are Pro features. Size, distance, padding and gap, Update all and Clear are always free.
