SoftShadow troubleshooting

The status bar at the bottom of the plugin reports every result and every error. Start there.

"Select one or more layers first"

Nothing that can take effects is selected. Select frames, shapes, text or components. Slices and some special layers cannot hold effects. The first line of the plugin says how many of the selected layers can take effects.

Some layers were skipped

The status bar says "skipped N locked or read-only". Figma refused the change for those layers, usually because they are read-only in this file, such as layers from a library you cannot edit here. Apply the shadow in the source file, or detach and apply again.

Tint from selection gives a black shadow

The tint comes from a visible solid fill on a selected layer. Gradients, images and layers without fills have no color to borrow, so the shadow stays black. Select a layer with a solid fill, or choose Custom and pick the color yourself.

My blur or inner shadow disappeared

Apply never removes them; it only replaces drop shadows (or inner shadows when Inner shadow is ticked). Effect styles are different: linking a layer to an elevation style replaces every effect on it, because that is how Figma effect styles work. Add the blur to the style itself, or apply the shadow directly instead of through a style.

"No local style named Elevation/3"

Apply level to selection looks for a local effect style with that name. Click Create effect styles first, and check that the style group field matches the group you created the styles with.

Re-apply reports layers that point to a style that no longer exists

Those layers were linked by SoftShadow to a level whose style was deleted or renamed, or the level count is now lower. Raise the level count back, or link those layers to another level with Apply level to selection.

Re-apply missed layers on other pages

Re-apply works on the current page. Open each page and run it there. Layers already linked to the styles on any page update automatically when the styles are rewritten.

The shadow looks different in the browser

The preview card and the copied CSS use the same values as the Figma effects. Differences usually come from the background: a shadow on a dark page or a tinted card reads differently. Check the CSS on the same background color you use in Figma.

"Copy failed"

The clipboard is blocked in this context. Click into the CSS box, select all and press Cmd/Ctrl + C.

A Pro feature opened the Get Pro tab

Inner shadows, presets, effect styles, re-apply and the scale export need a license. If you have one, open the Get Pro tab and click Verify now. The license is checked once a day and keeps working offline for 7 days.
