TypeLadder troubleshooting

The status bar at the bottom of the plugin reports every result and every error. Start there.

"is not an available font"

The family typed in the Headings or Body field does not match a font Figma can use in this file. Pick a name from the suggestion list; it must match exactly, including spaces and capitals.

"The font ... is not available here"

The family exists but Figma could not load that weight. Pick another weight from the list next to the family, or install the font on your computer and restart Figma.

"Could not list the available fonts"

Figma did not return its font list. Type the family name exactly as Figma shows it in the text panel; TypeLadder still loads it when you create styles.

Two steps have almost the same size

Small ratios with whole-pixel rounding produce sizes only a pixel apart near the base. TypeLadder keeps them distinct, but the difference is small. Use a larger ratio, fewer steps below the base, or 0.5 px rounding.

The styles did not update, new ones appeared instead

Styles are matched by group and name. If you changed the Style group field or the naming scheme, the names differ and new styles are created. Set the same group and names as before and run it again, then delete the leftovers.

The preview font looks different from Figma

The preview list uses fonts installed on your computer. Fonts Figma provides in the browser, or shared fonts from your organization, may not be installed locally, so the preview falls back to a system font. The text styles still use the font you picked; check the specimen frame on the canvas.

The mobile variables were skipped

The status bar explains why. "Could not add a Mobile mode" means your Figma plan allows only one mode per collection. "Variables are not available" means this editor has no variables. Either way the text styles are still written.

The variables were written but not bound to the styles

Some Figma versions cannot bind variables to text styles from a plugin. The status bar says so. Open each style, and bind the font size and line height to the font-size/<name> and line-height/<name> variables by hand.

Bindings disappeared after I ran it again

Creating text styles with the mobile mode off writes plain values into the styles, which replaces the variable bindings. Tick Mobile mode as variables and run it again to bind them back.

The export box is empty

Code export is a Pro feature. Activate a license on the Get Pro tab and the box fills in. If you have one, click Verify now; the license is checked once a day and keeps working offline for 7 days.

"Copy failed"

The clipboard is blocked in this context. Click into the export box, select all and press Cmd/Ctrl + C.
